สำหรับบทความในรอบนี้ เป็นตอนพิเศษที่เราจะพาไปรีวิวการ์ดสะสมเกี่ยวกับด้วง และพูดคุยสัมภาษณ์กับผู้อยู่เบื้องหลังคอลเลกชันการ์ดชุดนี้ — คุณ JRN Beetle บรีดเดอร์ชาวไทยผู้มีใจรักในด้วงคีมสายรุ้ง (Phalacrognathus muelleri) อย่างลึกซึ้ง

เมื่อไม่นานมานี้ ผมในนามของ TIGER’s Beetle Breeding ได้สั่งซื้อการ์ดชุดนี้มา 5 ใบเพื่อสะสม และทันทีที่ได้การ์ดมาอยู่ในมือ ความทรงจำในวัยเด็กก็ย้อนกลับมาอย่างชัดเจน

For this special feature, we’ll be reviewing a unique collection of beetle-themed trading cards and sitting down for an interview with the creator behind them — JRN Beetle, a Thai beetle breeder with a deep passion for the rainbow stag beetle (Phalacrognathus muelleri).

Not long ago, I, on behalf of TIGER’s Beetle Breeding, purchased five cards from this collection to add to my own. The moment I held them in my hands, a flood of childhood memories came rushing back.

ใครที่เติบโตมาในยุคปี 2005 น่าจะคุ้นเคยกับอนิเมะเรื่อง มูชิคิง: ผู้พิทักษ์แห่งขุนเขา (《甲虫王者ムシキング ～森の民の伝説》/ Mushiking: The Guardians of the Forest) ที่เคยฉายทาง “ช่อง 9 การ์ตูน” หรือ ช่อง 9 อ.ส.ม.ท. และแน่นอนว่าในยุคนั้นยังมี ตู้เกมอาร์เคด Mushiking: The King of Beetles วางตามเกมเซ็นเตอร์หรือแม้แต่ในร้าน Toys”R”Us ตามห้างใหญ่ ๆ

ผมเองก็เป็นหนึ่งในเด็กที่ได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมโปรโมตของตู้เกม Mushiking ที่จัดที่เซ็นทรัลปิ่นเกล้าเมื่อประมาณ 20 ปีก่อน และหลังจากนั้นก็มักแวะเล่นตู้เกมนี้ตามเกมเซ็นเตอร์ทุกวันเสาร์-อาทิตย์ หลังเรียนว่ายน้ำเสร็จ

จนถึงทุกวันนี้ การ์ด Mushiking ที่สะสมไว้ในตอนนั้น ผมก็ยังเก็บรักษาไว้อย่างดีเสมอ และปัจจุบันตู้เกมนี้ก็ไม่น่ามีให้ได้เล่นอีกแล้ว

Those who grew up around 2005 may remember the anime Mushiking: The Guardians of the Forest (《甲虫王者ムシキング ～森の民の伝説》), which aired on “Channel 9 Cartoon” — officially known as Channel 9 MCOT in Thailand. Back in those days, Mushiking: The King of Beetles arcade machines could also be found in game centers and even in Toys”R”Us stores inside major malls.

I was one of those kids who took part in a Mushiking arcade promotion held at Central Pinklao over 20 years ago. After that, I’d often drop by game centers on weekends to play, especially after finishing my swimming lessons.

To this day, I still keep my old Mushiking cards safe and well-preserved. Sadly, it seems that the arcade machines are now long gone and no longer available to play.

The collectible cards in this collection are made from high-quality paper stock — the same grade used in popular TCGs (Trading Card Games) such as the Pokémon Card Game (ポケモンカードゲーム), Yu-Gi-Oh! (遊☆戯☆王オフィシャルカードゲーム), and Magic: The Gathering. This results in a durable and sturdy texture, ideal for long-term storage and serious collecting.

Each card features a photo of a rainbow stag beetle (Phalacrognathus muelleri), specifically bred by JRN Beetle himself. The front of the card provides essential information, including:

• Scientific name
• Common English name
• Japanese name

In addition, each card includes deeper details such as:

• Breeding and rearing difficulty
• Optimal temperature for keeping
• Natural habitat
• Rarity level in the wild

1. รบกวนแนะนำตัวสักหน่อยครับ ว่าชื่ออะไร และเข้ามาในวงการด้วงอย่างไร

สวัสดีครับ ผมเจียระไนนะครับ เรียกว่าเรียวก็ได้ครับ เป็นภาษาญี่ปุ่นครับ เอาจริงๆผมชื่นชอบในการเลี้ยงสัตว์ต่างๆอยู่แล้ว ตอนเด็กๆเคยมีเลี้ยงบ้างครับครั้งนึง หลังจากนั้นก็ห่างหายมายาวเลย มีเข้าไปส่องตามเว็ปหรืออกระทู้ต่างๆบ้างแต่ก็ไม่มีโอกาสสักเท่าไหร่จนกระทั่งช่วงที่หารายได้เองได้ก็ลองศึกษาหาดูสายพันธุ์ต่างๆจนมาเจอกับเจ้าตัวด้วงคีมสายรุ้งนี่แหละครับก็เลยเริ่มเลี้ยงจากนั้นมาเลยครับ อาจจะฟังดูนานแต่ผมเพิ่งเริ่มเลี้ยงมาไม่ถึงปีเลยครับ 55555

2. ชื่อ “JRN Beetle” มีที่มาอย่างไร ทำไมถึงเลือกชื่อนี้ และมันมีความหมายพิเศษอะไรหรือเปล่า?

จริงๆแล้วชื่อนี้มันมีที่มาง่ายมากๆเลครับคือมาจากชื่อจริงผมเองเอามาย่อลงให้เหลือสามตัวอักษรครับ แล้วแต่เดิมผมทำปลาหางนกยูงขายอยู่แล้วด้วยชื่อ JRN FISH FARM ใครสนใจก็แวะเข้าไปส่องดูได้นะครับ 55555 ไหน ๆ เราใช้ชื่อนี้แล้วก็เปลี่ยนมาเป็น JRN BEETLES ไปเลยง่ายดีครับจะได้ดูเป็นเครือเดียวกันไป

3. ปัจจุบันเลี้ยงด้วงหรือแมลงอะไรอยู่บ้างครับ? มีสายพันธุ์ไหนที่ชื่นชอบเป็นพิเศษไหม?

หลัก ๆ เลยของผมก็จะเป็นด้วงคีมสายรุ้งครับจากที่เกริ่นไปก่อนหน้านี้เลยว่าชื่นชอบตัวนี้มาก เล่าย้อนกลับไปในตอนเด็กผมชอบกว่างซางหูกระต่าย (Eupatorus birmanicus) มาเลยนะครับถ้ามีโอกาสก็อยากหามาเลี้ยงไว้ด้วยเหมือนกันแต่ตอนนี้คือด้วงสีมาก่อนเป็นที่หนึ่งในใจเลยครับโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งด้วงคีมสายรุ้ง อาจจะเพราะว่ามีอะไรหลาย ๆ คล้ายกับปลาหางนกยูงครับ พูดแบบนี้อาจจะดูงงๆแต่ว่ามันมีการผสมข้ามสี พัฒนาสีใหม่ๆได้ มีการทำสีตาด้วยยีนด้อยได้ สิ่งต่างๆเหล่านี้มันชวนให้เกิดความสนุกในการพัฒนาและเพาะเลี้ยงสุดๆเลยครับ ส่วนสายที่มีแผนว่าจะเก็บสะสมต่อในอนาคตก็จะเป็นตระกูลด้วงดอกไม้ที่เป็นสี ๆ เลยครับ เดี๋ยวขอศึกษาเพิ่มเติมอีกซักหน่อยน่าจะสนุกดีเหมือนกันครับ

4. แรงบันดาลใจอะไรที่ทำให้คิดอยากสร้างการ์ด Trading Card Game เกี่ยวกับด้วงขึ้นมา? จุดเริ่มต้นเกิดจากอะไร?

เอาจริงๆตอนแรกเลยที่ผมทำโลโก้ JRN BEETLES ก็ได้รับแรงบรรดาลใจมาจาก TCG ด้วยส่วนนึงเพราะผมเห็นวัฒนธรรมในการเลี้ยงด้วงส่วนหนึ่งก็มีการสะสมเก็บเข้าเฟรมด้วยครับ เลยคิดว่ามันก็เป็นแนวคิดที่ไม่ห่างกันมากนัก ส่วนตัวการ์ดสิ่งที่จุดประกายจริง ๆ เลยคือผมเห็นคนไต้หวันเขาถ่ายรูปโชว์กับการ์ด แต่พอจะหาดูในไทยก็ค่อนข้างจะยากเลยครับ เลยคิดว่าทำเองไปเลยจบๆตอบสนอนความต้องการของตัวเองเลยครับ 55555 ส่วนจุดประสงค์อีกอย่างนึงก็คือเอาไว้เผื่อแถมให้กับคนที่ซื้อหนอนจากผมไปครับ ถ้าจะเป็นออกใบเซอร์ก็อาจจะดูทางการเกินไป ออกมาเป็นการ์ดให้สะสมกันก็น่าจะอยู่ไม่น้อย เผื่อมีพี่ๆท่านไหนสนใจอยากสะสมก็จะได้มาจับจองกันได้ครับ ตั้งใจที่จะปล่อยขายในราคาหลักสิบ ใคร ๆ ก็ซื้อสะสมได้สบายๆครับผม

5. การ์ด Trading Card Game ที่ทำขึ้นมีชื่อเรียกเฉพาะไหมครับ? ถ้ามี อยากให้เล่าให้ฟังหน่อย

ตอนนี้ยังไม่มีชื่อเรียกเฉพาะเลยครับผม ขอแค่เพื่อนๆพี่ๆสนใจในการสะสมกันผมก็ดีใจแล้วแหละครับ เดี๋ยวให้ในอนาคตเพื่อนๆพี่ๆช่วยกันตั้งชื่อให้ก็น่าจะดีไม่น้อยเหมือนกันครับ

6. ในการ์ดชุดนี้ มีกติกาหรือรูปแบบการเล่นอย่างไร? วางระบบไว้แบบไหน?

หลักๆเลยการ์ดชุดนี้ไม่ได้มีการวางระบบเอาไว้สำหรับการเล่นแต่จะเน้นไปที่การสะสมเสียมากกว่าครับ โดยจะมีการ์ดพิเศษที่เป็นลายสะท้อยแสงสุ่มปนอยู่เป็นการ์ดแรร์ครับ ส่วนข้อมูลที่เขียนอยู่บนการ์ดก้จะเป็นพวกข้อมูลพื้นฐานของด้วงตัวนั้นๆเช่นความยากง่ายในการเลี้ยง อุณหภูมิที่เหมาะสม ระดับความหายากง่ายของ Variety ที่มีของด้วงชนิดนั้นๆครับ และก็จะมีแปะที่มาของรูปต่าง ๆ ว่ามาจากทางเพจไหนเผื่อมีเพื่อนๆพี่ๆคนไหนสนใจสั่งซื้อด้วงประเภทนั้นๆก็สามารถไปเสิร์ชหาเพจนั้นๆต่อได้เลยครับ

7. มองอนาคตของโปรเจกต์การ์ดนี้ไว้อย่างไรบ้าง เช่น มีแผนออกคอลเลกชันใหม่ หรือขยายจักรวาลการ์ดยังไง?

ในส่วนของการ์ดก็จะค่อยๆทยอยทำออกมาเรื่อยๆครับ ก็จะเน้นหลักๆไปที่ด้วงที่ผมชอบและมีอยู่ก่อนเลยครับเนื่องจากหามุมจัดถ่ายเองได้ง่ายแล้วก็จะค่อยๆทำรันเลขไปเรื่อยๆครับ ช่วงนี้ก็อาจจะเป็นด้วงคีมสานรุ้งเยอะหน่อยครับ 5555 ถัดไปที่เล็งอยากจะทำก็เป็นพวกแลมพริม่า (Lamprima) กับเหล่าด้วงดอกไม้ (Cetoniinae) หลาย ๆ สี พวกสมันก็อยากทำอยู่นะครับแต่อาจจะต้องรอนายแบบจากเพื่อนๆพี่ๆในวงการอีกทีด้วยครับ ใจจริงก็อยาเลี้ยงไปหมดแต่ที่หมดก่อนจะเป็นตังครับ 55555 ส่วนเรื่องของการขยายจักรวาลไปสัตว์ชนิดอื่นก็ต้องแน่นอนว่าเป็นปลาหางนกยูงที่ผมทำเป็นหลักเลยครับ ถ้าว่างๆก็อยากจะลองทำเก็บไว้ดูอยู่เหมือนกันตครับแต่ตอนนี้คงเน้นด้วงเป็นหลักเสียมากกว่าเพราก็ดูเขากับสไตล์ของคตนเลี้ยงด้วยครับผม

JRN Beetle

The collectible cards by JRN Beetle caught my interest so much that I wanted to learn about the inspiration behind them. I reached out and interviewed JRN Beetle to talk about the passion driving this card collection.

1. Please introduce yourself — your name and how you got into the beetle hobby.

Hello, I’m Jeeranai, but you can call me Ryo — it’s a Japanese nickname. Honestly, I’ve always liked keeping animals since I was a kid. I had some pets when I was young but then took a long break. Occasionally, I’d browse websites and forums, but I never had the chance to get back into it until I started earning my own money. That’s when I began researching different species and discovered the rainbow stag beetle (Phalacrognathus muelleri). Since then, I’ve been raising them. It might sound like a long time, but actually, I’ve been keeping them less than a year! Haha.

2. Where did the name “JRN Beetle” come from? Why did you choose it? Does it have any special meaning?

It’s pretty simple — it comes from my real name, shortened to three letters: JRN. I’ve also been running a guppy fish business called “JRN Fish Farm.” Feel free to check it out! Haha. Since I was already using the JRN brand, I decided to name my beetle project “JRN Beetles” so it looks like part of the same family.

3. What beetles or insects are you currently raising? Any favorites?

My main focus is the rainbow stag beetle, as I mentioned before. When I was a kid, I also liked the Burmese rabbit beetle (Eupatorus birmanicus), and I’d love to keep those someday, too. But right now, the colorful beetles have my heart — especially the rainbow stag beetle (Phalacrognathus muelleri). Maybe it’s because they share some traits with guppy fish. I know it sounds strange, but there’s crossbreeding of colors, new color developments, and even recessive genes affecting eye color. These things make breeding and raising them really fun. In the future, I plan to collect more colorful flower beetles. I need to study them more, but it looks promising and enjoyable.

4. What inspired you to create a beetle-themed Trading Card Game? How did it start?

Honestly, when I first made the JRN Beetles logo, I partly took inspiration from TCG culture. Beetle keeping sometimes involves collecting and framing beetles, so I thought it wasn’t too far off. The real spark for the cards came when I saw people in Taiwan taking photos with beetle cards. But it’s hard to find something like that in Thailand. So I thought, why not make my own to satisfy my interest? Haha. Another purpose was to give something extra to customers who buy larvae from me. Certificates seemed too official, so collectible cards felt more fun. Plus, collectors can get them easily since I plan to sell them at affordable prices.

5. Does the Trading Card Game you made have a specific name? If yes, please tell us about it.

Not yet. I’m just happy if friends and beetle enthusiasts enjoy collecting them. In the future, I hope everyone can help come up with a good name!

6. What are the rules or gameplay for these cards? Is there a system?

Mainly, these cards are for collecting, not for playing. There are special shiny “rare” cards randomly mixed in. The cards show basic info about each beetle: breeding difficulty, optimal temperature, rarity, and so on. The photos also credit the source pages so interested people can look up and buy beetles from those pages.

7. What’s your vision for the future of this card project? Will there be new collections or expanded universes?

I plan to slowly release more cards, focusing on beetles I like and already have, since it’s easy for me to take photos. For now, that means mostly rainbow stag beetles. After that, I want to work on Lamprima beetles and various colorful flower beetles (Cetoniinae). I’m also interested in rhinoceros beetles, but I need help getting models from friends in the community. Honestly, I want to keep them all, but money is the limit! Haha. As for expanding beyond beetles, I mainly focus on guppy fish, which I breed professionally, so maybe I’ll try making cards for them someday. But for now, beetles take priority since it fits my style better.
